For Parents and Families

Parents and families play an important part in the lives of our students. When considering joining a fraternity or sorority students may ask you several questions.  If you are a member of an organization or learning information through personal research, your opinion matters.

There are many benefits to membership which include:

Scholarship: Academics are a priority for all fraternities and sororities. Organizations host study hours/groups to encourage members to do their best as an individual while positively contributing to the chapter’s overall academic standing. Students are required to maintain a grade point average (GPA) that exemplifies excellence to be classified as an Active Member.

Leadership: Opportunities within a fraternity or sorority encourages members to be successful both in and out of the classroom.  Students will develop and display their project management skills while executing campus and community programs.  Attendance during local, regional, and national conferences will also provide a venue for networking not only with alumni/alumnae but future employers.

Service: Students that choose to join a fraternity or sorority will enhance their collegiate experience through participation in service learning activities.  They provide tutoring services to their peers on campus in addition to supporting local individuals and communities by donating time, scholarships, clothing, and non perishable food items.

Brotherhood/Sisterhood: Membership in a fraternity or sorority is an excellent way to meet new people from diverse backgrounds.  Establishing positive relationships has a direct impact on being successful during the collegiate years.  Upon graduation, the bond continues to grow as members remain connected as a result of shared values learned in their organization.
