At Bentley University, diversity is everyone’s responsibility. Fulfilling our mission as an institution depends on all of us becoming more competent in dealing with people who seem different from us. Formal responsibility for coordination of university-wide diversity-related activities at Bentley is located in the Office of the President. Co-leading the initiative arem Special Assistant to the President, Earl Avery and Professor Duncan Spelman. Many other departments, centers, offices, programs and organizations at Bentley contribute to improving the diversity climate through varied and persistent efforts. This site contains information about, and links to, many of those specific places at Bentley where diversity work is being done. The site is also a source for stories, current and upcoming diversity-related events, and resources.
How has your life changed since coming to Bentley? How do you think your time here has shaped your vision for your future?
"Since coming to Bentley, I’ve been more involved with the community. I’m trying to give back to both Waltham and Boston by helping children. In one project I was involved with, we were able to bring inner-city kids from Boston to Bentley and teach them about college and business. We spent a whole Saturday with them. We exposed them to college and showed them that this is the gateway to their career and future. It was a great experience and I was very comfortable. I saw myself in them. They didn’t know what was out there – they didn’t know that there are other options besides dropping out of high school. It really opened up my eyes that I could give back to the community like this."
