First Week Excursions

Each year Bentley University offers its first year students the unique opportunity to get to know Bentley and beyond. Below is a sampling of excursions that we have offered.

Leadership Academy

Join current Bentley student leaders in activities and conversation about how to kick-start your leadership potential!  Students will learn about the more than 100 clubs and organizations and best tips to get involved on campus.  After lunch, it’s off to a teambuilding/ropes course in Westwood, MA, where you will engage in an afternoon of personal and team challenges.  It’s the perfect way to make leadership a primary part of your Bentley experience! 

Boston Movie Tours

See where the chase scene from The Town took placeOn Location Tours is Boston's only TV and movie location tour company. Founded in 1999, the company has accompanied tens of thousands of people past the doorsteps of their favorite television and movie characters.  Enter the L Street Tavern, home of Good Will Hunting; visit 10 locations from The Departed including the building from the climatic rooftop scene; catch a glimpse of the buildings used in Boston Legal and Ally McBeal; and get insider information on the secrets behind filming Mystic River, Legally Blonde, Fever Pitch, 21 and Gone Baby Gone. 

Discovering Waltham

Come discover the fun and accessibility of downtown Waltham—just a short walk away, no car needed.  This simple walking excursion is meant to introduce you to the variety of activities nearby.  From the awesome Farmer’s Market in Downtown Waltham; providing yummy local baked goods, crafts, organic veggies and healthy snacks,  to the beautiful Lyman Estate, this tour will help show you some of Waltham’s most interesting spots.  This excursion leaves the campus at 10:00 am (meet by the Falcon statue on the backside of the Library) and returns to Bentley between noon and 1:00 pm.  Participants will be provided with a cool reusable bag, in order to have a sustainable way to carry purchases.  Cash is recommended as not all vendors at the Farmer’s Market accept credit cards.  Please remember to wear comfortable shoes and appropriate clothing for walking! 

Patriot Place/5 Wits

Visit the home of the New England Patriots and participate in 5 Wits!  A 5 Wits adventure will fully immerse you in a vibrant, physical world that’s unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before! You'll have to solve puzzles, explore new spaces and discover the details of your unique story.  Patriot Place features a wide variety of shopping experiences offering everything from major fashion retailers and unique shops, to the first Bass Pro Shops in New England ranked the #1 outdoor retailer in America by Sporting Goods Business. There is something for everyone at Patriot Place. The Hall of Fame at Patriot Place is an exciting, new, innovative and interactive experience.; $10 per student. 

Canoe Trip

Enjoy a six-mile canoe trip from Newton Lower Falls to the Moody Street Dam in Waltham. 

Legacy Place & Showcase Movie Theater

Legacy Place offers the best shopping, dining and entertainment experience in the region. The center features a unique blend of retailers, including Whole Foods Market, L.L.Bean, Kings, Borders, and Showcase Cinema de Lux. Legacy Place also hosts an exceptional lineup of restaurants, including Legal Sea Foods, P.F. Chang's, and Aquitaine along with exciting specialty retailers such as Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, and City Sports.  In addition, you receive one movie ticket to be used at any Showcase Movie Theater.

Stone Meadow Golf

The Par 3 course at Stone Meadow is pristine, compact, and easy to walk. It is an ideal course for beginners and a great short course for experienced golfers.  The 9 holes vary from fifty to ninety yards long. Most players use only a wedge and putter to sharpen their short game abilities. 

Blue Hills Hiking & Picnic

Join your guide  and explore the Blue Hills Reservation!  Located only minutes from downtown Boston, the DCR Blue Hills Reservation stretches over 7,000 acres from Quincy to Dedham, Milton to Randolph, providing a green oasis in an urban environment. Rising above the horizon, Great Blue Hill reaches a height of 635 feet, the highest of the 22 hills in the Blue Hills chain. From the rocky summit visitors can see over the entire metropolitan area. With its scenic views, varied terrain and 125 miles of trails, the Blue Hills Reservation offers year-round enjoyment for the outdoor enthusiast.  A picnic lunch will be provided at the summit.

Museum of Science, IMAX Movie & Shopping at the Cambridgeside Galleria Mall

The Museum of Science is a Boston landmark, located in Science Park. Along with over 500 interactive exhibits, the Museum features a number of live presentations throughout the building every day, along with shows at the Charles Hayden Planetarium and the Mugar Omni IMAX theater, the only domed IMAX screen in New England (ticket included).  After visiting the museum shop at the Cambridgeside Galleria, a hip urban center, with spectacular waterfront location, offers more than 120 of Boston's favorite stores, specialty boutiques and restaurants. Discover great shopping at Best Buy, Borders, Sears, Macy's, Apple Store and more. Enjoy casual dining at The Cheesecake Factory, California Pizza Kitchen, and P.F. Chang's China Bistro, or simply grab a bite on the go at the Waterfront Food Festival.
